Do you mean the parallel port, LPT1:?

This is a tough one, first off I would recommend going into the bios and making sure the LPT1 port is running as bi-directional this way the computer knows there is a device there that can send as well as receive data, similar to an all in one printer that has a scanner built in. Once that is done, run the Add Hardware from the Control Panel, let it try to detect the drive, if it fails, tell it you will do it manually, make sure you know the brand of the external drive, you should be able to tell the computer that it is connected to the LPT1 port during installation. Double click Add Hardware in Control Panel.

Theoretically Windows should automatically detect your miniport and install a driver.

You may have to do a Google search and see if you can find a driver if you cannot get it to work. I tried to get my parallel port hard drive to work but gave up in the end. It was a very old DataWise Quick Drive originally designed for Windows 95/NT.
