Why do people that used to live in Detroit talk crap about it?

Why do people that have left feel the need to bury the people that are here in the trenches everyday trying to create something wonderful? Is it that they feel guilty for not having a backbone? Is it they want everyone to leave so they can accept being a turncoat?

I think most want to make themselves feel better about leaving. I think others just listen to gossip and news stories. The news only ever gives bad news. I think others who left 20 years or so ago, have never gone back and assume everything is still bad. They are all to blame for helping continue the negative views of the city instead of trying to make it better (them and the mayor :p ).

I pity a lot of those people for not being able to see beyond Detroit's downfalls. If we all stopped complaining and did something to help, there wouldn't be nearly as many problems and people might actually come to visit Detroit.

    There are several reasons why people who use to live in Detroit do not talk nicely about Detroit. Here are four reasons why I believe former Detroiters like myself do not talk nicely about it;

    1. Detroit has absolutely nothing going for it. Everyday Detroit says "Lets Move Forward" but instead they take One Step Back. The only reasons why anybody actually goes to Detroit is for a sporting event, a special event, or to go to the casinos.

    2. Detroit is not a travel destination. Out of the many cities in the Midwest including Chicago, Cleveland, and Indianapolis, Detroit is not a place where people want to visit. Why? Because Detroit is boring. I believe you can do everything you want that is in your interest in Detroit in one day and at the end of the day, you will think it was the most boringest trip you have ever taken.

    3. The City of Detroit is CORRUPT. The Mayor does not care for the citizens, the City Council can never get along, and the public schools are falling apart. Detroit use to be a prosperous city but when the Riots occurred in 1967, the city went downhill after that and it declined when Coleman Young became mayor. When Dennis Archer became mayor, Detroit started to improve but since Kwame Kilpatrick became mayor, Detroit has been on decline again. I believe that the only way you can make Detroit clean of corruption is to elect a Republican Mayor and a Republican City Council. Why? Because you cannot name one Democrat other than Dennis Archer that has done the City of Detroit any good.

    4. The citizens of Detroit expect that the city goverment is going to take responsibity and when the city government fails to do their part, citizens complain. The citizens do not realize that goverment will do their part but as citizens it is their responsiblites to do their part as well but since the citizens of Detroit do not enjoy doing their part, many promised made by the city go broken.

Well really what do you want them to say about detroit? That it's a wonderful safe place with palm trees and lots of government money? It's not. The riverfront is very nice but it's like the tax money doesnt get put in good use...some roads are bad...the crime is bad...there are alot of homeless people...im talking about right in the heart of downtown detroit...the mayor needs to go...he is like the youngest mayor in history or something...he's only like 30 something...i mean come on. The city spent so much money fixing stuff up for the superbowl but they wont fix the public elementary schools...how does that make sense? You can't expect detroit to have a good rep when it doesnt have much to offer people. The jobs are gone and lots of factories shut down and some places never recovered from the riots. Actually baltimore is the murder cap right now and detroit is number 2 i think...but baltimore looks nicer than detroit if you are comparing just the downtown area but i saw some very poor parts of baltimore worse than anything i ever saw in detroit. If people left detroit and have negative things to say about it it's because they had bad experiences here...dont blame them for speaking THEIR truth...one person's heaven is another person's hell. I mean it's pretty bad having to worry all the time that you're gonna get attacked...i hate that...i know so many girls who carry mase...and i know two girls who got attacked during the day on campus at a university...that's horrible...it's the government's fault for not doing anything to help the city.

Because there is places in Detroit that are the ghetto and who wants to live in that? It all depends on where exactly from Detroit you come from too. There is a lot of people there that do give it a bad name because of the things that they do. If all of Detroit was nice, then maybe people wouldn't talk crap about it. I know I lived in Detroit, Allen Park, Taylor, and they do have some wonderful people there but it is the ******* that give it that not so welcoming and wanting to come back appel.

They usually talk crap about it because they know what it used to be like ... and they know what it still IS like. I used to live in Detroit, came back for a visit, and was not impressed. It hadn't changed and in fact it seems to be getting worst.

It wasn't long ago that the city wanted to close down the zoo ... you expect people to think that's good? Name one major city other than Detroit that said it would be closing down its main city zoo in the last 10 years ... oh, exactly ... you can't.

    You must live in Oakland.

I live in Detroit, and I hate it.

It could have been so much greater than Chicago if we would have kept it up and going.

They could have kept the train station and it'd be glamorous...

but instead, all of the trash, ghetto gangs took over and destroyed it. We have nothing.

    It's disgusting.

    ...It's the poorest city.

Because ignorant people have to act "too cool" by talking improperly and playing with gunssss, this is what happens.

Murder Capital of the United States!

    PERFECT.

Yeah, I was born and raised there and I left, but I don't talk any different about them now than I did when I was there.
