My computer needs a video card...?
my computer is a windows XP by Dell and is a 2000 model. How do I go about getting a video card, does my computer have a spot for a video card since it is an old computer? Is it expensive to get a video card put in the computer? Thank you for helping me out here.

How do you know it doesn't have one? Computers can have integrated graphics instead of a video card, but if they do, they do not necessarily allow for a video card to be installed. Go to the Dell web site, go to support, plug in the computer's ID code (it is on a tag at the back), and they will tell you what it has. From there, you can read the manual to see what it is capable of adding on.

PCI slot yes you can upgrade check with the motherboard manufacturer, the model number of the motherboard is right no it... look it up on internet and see specs... some take AGP ports they are brown they are accellorated Graphics Ports and some take PCI sounds like you could have AGP from the winxp on there... but dell motherboards are usually all onboard crap... so I recommend checking into a new motherboard with no video card on it.. cause you will have to disable it in the bios.... again Dell is onboard everything so anytime you want to upgrade its pain in the butt.. ya they are cheap until you have to do this! I make my own computers from scratch that is the best thing you could ever do for yourself.
Source(s): Video card must not exceed the abilty of the motherboard..and if your trying to upgrade just the video and nothing else then your going to find its not going to help much... Ram and Video are important for games.. if thats what your doing. Get new board for that! - 1 decade ago
wow, it depends on why you need it. if it is a laptop computer then dont even bother, the best thing is to just buy another. if it is a desktop then ur gona have to play with the inside. now adays its hard to keep up with a video card. if you can live without its best. but if you need one my suggestion is just to buy a new one. theres a lot of work in getting a video card. good luck!

Laptops could have already got a photographs chip soldered into its motherboard its no longer a card so it could't be upgraded like a working laptop or computer All laptops have photographs Processors integrated into the motherboard, computer's would be integrated or would be as a ramification card or you may no longer see something on the demonstrate in case you prefer to play 3-D on line video games then something could do it

find out if your motherboard uses AGP, PCI, or PCI express slot type. Its probably AGP, if so make sure you get the right voltage card. go to ebay and start searching. Don't pay someone to install it unless you have money falling out of your pocket. If you need more help get back to me. I know this subject inside and out.

You can go to best buy and get one for under $60. Just don't ask geek squad to do it for you, they're idiots...just look at consumerist.com ;)
