I got the depo prevera shot 2 times already but i heard many bad things about it!....HELP!!?
I have 3 kids already at the age of 25 and i really don't want anymore. I have a 4 month, a 2 year old, and a 7 year old and i think that is a handful. I'm taking the depo shot as birth control because im afraid of the tube tying surgery. I heard that the depo causes osteoperosis, makes you gain weight, and many other things. How many other women had problems with it and if there is a better birth control...? or if you had your tubes tied were there any complications?...and how long did you take to recover?
can the IUD get lost inside???

I had my tubes tied 12 years ago and found it very liberating. Having been chronic sick since my teens, I didn't think I could look after more than the two children I had. It is a fairly serious operation (unless the procedure has changed), where the abdominal wall is cut through, as in a caesarean section, but with a smaller cut. It was somewhat painful for a while, but the only complication was an infection for which I took a course of antibiotics, due to me having a rather ineffective immune system and overdoing it physically. The inch-long scar is neatly hidden under my bikini-line and hardly noticeable now. It took all the worry out of sex, which became much more natural mentally, not having to use pills or bits of rubber, etc., all of which had complications for me which were becoming intolerable. My younger child was 2, the older, more demanding one 3 1/2 when I had my op.

I've been using Depo since I was 16 (I'm 24 now) off and on. I'm a big fan of it as far as birth control goes. I've heard a lot of not-so-good things about it, but I've even asked my doc about it and he says there are some possible side effects, but there are drawbacks to all birth control. Most doctors are good about letting you try something new until you find something that suits you. I've heard too that IUD's are great too. This is just my opinion, but I think if I didn't want any more kids, I would just get the surgery. Then you don't have to worry about any of it anymore.
Good luck!

Yes, the Depo shot does have lots of serious side effects. A safe and reliable long-term birth control is the IUD. Check out Family Planning or Planned Parenthood for more info. I have read on this site that todays laser surgery to get your tubes tied does not usually have side effects or complications and that you heal quickly. Hope things work out for you.

One of my coworkers was on it. She showed me some pictures of her from when she was in high school and she was about 100 pounds lighter!!! I would just use a condom or a regular birth control pill. I've been on orthotricyclen and it was good, no side effects. Also tried Nuva ring and I gained 5 pounds.

i became on the shot for 9 years - did no longer benefit wait - I enjoyed it. I even have heard that some human beings have unpredictable sessions on it, yet i individually (as with numerous human beings I even have widespread to be on it) don't get one in any respect.
