Can someone help me calculate how much I will be spending in gas?
I am making a trip from Houston to Fountain valley, CA. It is approximently 1534 miles according to mapquest.
I have a jeep liberty which i would say I will get about 20 miles per gallon. Might even be better since I will go like 55 to save more.
Lets say that gas will be $2.80 cents per gallon.
Can someone tell me what i would be spending in gas alone?
Just so everyone knows.....I came up with the same answer and i work in accounting. I wanted to CONFIRM my answer so that i can add that into my finances and dont want to add in the wrong amount. Too stressed out with all this. my answer of 214 dollars didnt seem right since my friends mom made the trip and half way she spent 200 and she gets better gas mileage. Thanks tho guys!

1534 miles according to mapquest
(a) allow for mapquest errors
no left turn , not recognize one way street
depending on how many stops you need to make to fill up more gas, go to bathroom, feed your face, get some sleep ... there will be some detours
also glance at atlas ...to verify mapquest about right ball park ... some people make keying errors & it is some other address they meant to put in
divide by 20 miles per gallon estimate
that's about 80 gallons
gas prices always going up ... me lazy, multiply $ 3.00 a gallon & come up with $ 240 budget for gas one way
You said 55 mph ... allow for slow downs with traffic jams at both ends of trip, maybe in between
divide 55 into 1534 miles ... comes to approx 30 hours driving
You might be able to do that non-stop
other humans probably want to stop at a motel for a nap at least a couple times along the way
There are gas price places on the Internet where you can figure best way to drive to get the best prices for gas

1534 miles at 20 miles per gallon and an average of $2.80 a gallon would cost you about $214.76.

You should be getting better than 20 mpg with a 4 or 6 cyl. Jeep. I get 25 mpg with a 6 cyl. Ford Taurus.
It's easy to calculate gas millage.
Every time you fill up, zero out your trip odometer.
When you fill up again keep your gas receipt and write down how many miles you went with the fuel that you used.
It's then easy to calculate your millage by dividing the amount miles you went with that fuel with how many miles it took you.
Example: Here's one of mine.......303.5 miles divided by 11.,85 Gallons. Using a calculator that comes out to 25.6 mpg.
After you know what actual gas millage you are getting you can easily calculate how much that trip will cost you in fuel.

Calculate it 20 m/p/g and that's 1534 miles (1534/20) = 76.7 gallons @ 2.8/gallon = $214.76

well using math (I'm a public school graduate so look out) -- and with 1534 miles to go, u get 20 miles to a gallon (divide),
answer is 76.7 gallons x $2.80 = $214.76 ...... duh was that to hard to figure
