How many miles will a Dodge Cummins Engine run?
I am buying a used Dodge Diesel truck and am wondering what the life of the Cummins Diesel engine is? Most of these trucks I am looking at have 150,000 + miles. What is the life of these engines?

Ran a 90 Cummins to 500,000 miles with no issues, just regular maintenance. 02 to 1993 are generation 2 it was not till 2003 when they added the new body style to the CTD Models. 2003 models you have to watch for SO (Standard Output) vs HO (High output).
03 & 04 models had the HO CTD have 305 HP with 3.5 inch turbo back to muffler and 4 inch muffler to tip with no Litter boxes (Cat's). No real difference from the 600 series 2004.5 and newer, only 325hp and 600 lb/ft of torque vs 305 hp 555 lb/ft torque and 4 inch turbo back but you have the litter box!
Own a 04 HO CTD 4x4 Laramie quadcab and it has been flawless and have 75,000 miles and even added The Edge Juice Attitude, AFE CAI and added 4 inch exhaust with Diamond Eye muffler and it keeps up with alot of vehicles and even gets a steady 19MPG city and 24 MPG.

essentially infinite.
you take care of it,and keep up on the maintenance schedule, odds are very good you could be looking for a new truck to put around your cummins. there are several clubs for dodge trucks with over a million miles. the military has many 900-series 5 ton trucks with their original cummins engines, and this series was introduced in vietnam.the cummins can also be found in tanks, coach buses, the new to the army stryker, commercial marine applications, generators, and numerous other applications where install and pretty much forget, reliability is necessary.

I drove a cummins diesel eng, ( the first 2 about 450,000 km each ) the last one packed it in at 250.000 a shocker and a half that was. no warning nothing, the cummins engine fine the rest special the front end, just way below any ford ore gmc, special the 2006 dodge spend about $ 8,000 to $ 10,000, on the front end.

My 93 Ram has 376,000 and going strong. The rear main seal has now starting leaking, so will be changing that soon. This truck has been driven on logging roads most of it s life and has never failed. Regular oil changes at 5000 miles with good oil is the trick!

350,000 is the time for valve job.I have 04.5 if you can get 1 get the new 600 series Eng is the best no trans or Eng issues.02=04 had the 305hp 3" exhaust an 47 trans 04.5 06 have 325hp & 4" exhaust has the 48 trans apple & oranges between then .An there guiet under 02 there called the raddler as there quit noisy.

I own a business with 25 plus trucks. Have had 6 cummins and are now down to just 2. I have not had one cummins go over 230 K. The rest of our trucks are GMC duramax and we have many of them over 350 K and still running strong. They are all maintained the same way and driven the same. Go figure!!

Usually, at least 300,000 until an injector pump goes bad, this can be prevented by installing a new lift pump, if the lift pump goes bad then it will kill the injector pump, which is very costly. The engine itself can go well over 500,000 so long as it is maintained. Good luck!

Atleast 200,000 before a problem such as an injection pump. But I have seen many past 500,000 and one over a million miles on the unrebuilt motor.
