Medical question. please include references or websites.?

Mr. C.Y., age 71, has had significant emphysema for 6 years. He has reduced his cigarette smoking since mild congestive heart failure was diagnosed (right sided). He has been admitted to the hospital with a suspected closed pneumothorax and respiratory failure.

1.Describe the pathophysiologic changes in the lungs with emphysema, and explain how these affect oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the blood.

2.Explain the possible role of smoking in Mr. C.Y.’s case and its general effects on respiratory function (consider effects on cardiovascular function also).

3.Would significant characteristics related to emphysema and heart failure would you expect to observe in Mr. C.Y.

4.Explain how a pneumothorax has probably occurred in the presence of emphysema.

5.Explain how a pneumothorax has precipitated respiratory failure, using the effects of lung function and gas exchange in your answer. Include the criteria for respiratory failure.

6.Explain why caution must be exercised in administering oxygen to Mr. C.Y.

Mr. C.Y. is resting quietly. Suggest three complications of immobility that could develop in Mr. C.Y.

Explain how congestive heart failure develops from emphysema.

ok 1. since he has it already his oxygen level has gone down a significant level. but since he has changed his ways and reduced his smoking habits. his lungs wont get worse.

    2. if he goes on smoking he will get a lot worse and need to have an oxygen tank everywhere he goes. every time he takes a puff of the cigarette his lungs get filled w/ dark smoke and addictive nicotine. when it gets to the point where he has to be on a ventilator to breathe he would wish he didn't pick up a cigarette in his lifetime. this may cause other health problems as well.

3.well i would look for shortness of breath, not being able to blow up a balloon, and being on the verge of a heart attack, cause he wasn't used to putting that much exercise into that.

4.it has probably occurred in lots of patients w/ emphysema. now I'm no medical student. but it sounds to me like all these ppl should stop smoking and start exercising their lungs better.

    5. now his respiratory system is shutting down this is the part of the disease where its getting much worse. his lungs can not function regularly now on their own. they need oxygen almost 100% of the day.which means his heart is working much harder to get those muscles working faster so the blood can go to the right places.

    6. caution must be exercised in his case because of 2 reasons. 1 is because of his age he could have any number of health problems sneak up on him so everyone needs to keep a close eye on him. and 2 is because his situation is getting worse. he has heart problems, respiratory system is wanting to shut down, he doesn't breath for his self anymore. i mean what else can spell out health disaster. he would need a wheel chair, he would need to be on bed rest 24/7 so he wouldn't waist his strength. and i cant think of a 3rd. now i watch lots of medicine shows so this is how i know all this. Ok how heart failure leads to emphysema. heres how it works. your heart has the most hardest job in your body. it pumps lots of blood to lots of areas. including your brain and evreything else. now if ur heart stops u can die. so ur heart stops for a couple miutes but not long enough to actually kill u. the medical ppl bring u back to life. now a period of 6 months has passed u started smoking when u were 16. all u ever heard was what big of a mistake u did. no one ever told u the health risk that could happen to u. now if they did u just thought that will never happen to me, cause im in perfect health. well now u've had a heart attack and now have emphysema. u cant breathe on ur own u have to have a machine do it for u. uve had to cut down on ur smoking. u could'nt even blow out ur own birthday candles 2 months ago. thats how bad ur ocndition is.
