modding is usualy putting a hard drive in not hard drive systems like the ps2 and the wii but if you take it to a shop to get it done they can take your wii and you can do s@#$ because its illegal so if you do get it done besure you can trust the guy thats doing it .

An off-the-shelf Wii will not play copies of games burned onto DVDs, it will only play games that are pressed on the original DVD media (burning is different from pressing). This is a protection against piracy, such a people letting someone burn a copy of a game then play it w/o buying it. Modding is adding hardware (usually a chip) to your existing system that overrides disk protections and allows the system to play "backup" games that are burned by the user and not requiring the original disk pressed by the manufacturer. It takes a while for a reliable mod chip to become available, and right now there is none that I know of for the Wii.

Here is the mod chip you need to buy, for installing it.. check google.com for help..
