Did Hopkins beat Winky by as much as the judges had?
I do feel Hopkins won, but I think the judges scorecards were a little skewed.

Hopkins shoulda lost a point al east for holding CONSTANTLY! This wore Winky down and could have changed the outcome if a. he lost a point and b. Winky woulda had that energy released from being held all the time.
I do agree the margin was wide.

i had hopkins winning rounds 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12 so 8 rounds to winky's 4. But the fight was close early so I can see why people think winky won the fight. And for everyone here, Bernard didn't headbutt winky to open the cut. The replays clearly show that winky had just thrown a left hook that missed and trying to regain his balance as he is a southpaw, he leaned to his left and at the same time hopkins was going for a counterpunch with the right hand. these things tend to happen when southpaws fight orthodox fighters. for anyone to say hopkins intentionally did it and that he is a dirty fighter is absurd. i also blame HBO's broadcast for the opinions that people have on the accidental clash of heads as they kept reiterating how bernard likes to move in with his head first. people watching the ppv automatically assume the it was a calculated headbutt when in fact it wasn't.

I agree. I would've given it to Hopkins, but by nowhere near as much as the judges did. That's always the problem in close fights, though - folks like us see it close to even while the judges think one guy's style or fight is more effective and so they give all the close rounds to that guy. If the judge thinks Hopkins' negating Wright's attack was most impressive, bang - you've got a lopsided score. If the judge thinks Wright's landing slightly more punches was most impressive, bang - you've got a lopsided score. Looks like the judges preferred Hopkins' style this time.
For the record, I had it 115-114, Hopkins (I scored one round a draw).

No, the scoring was a little too one sided for Hopkins, but I agree with the Unanimous Dec.
Hopkins clearly won at least 8 rounds out of the 12.

I think that Winky controlled the fight most of the first 6 rounds and Hopkins only made it interesting when he headbutt Winky. A Hopkins fight is rarely an offensive onslaught and either goes to a decision or a lucky rabbit punch ends it. Just ask his business partner DLH. I think at best, that fight should've been a draw.

Hell no. One Judge had it 117 - 111. I had Winky winning the fight 115 - 113. Hopkins is the champ and you have to beat the champ convincingly to take his belt. Also, he his Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and he has a reputation that you have to beat also. Wright won the fight, but they gave it to Hopkins. Hopkins was holding all fight also.

I think that the judges had it by too wide of a margin. My score was 115-113 Hopkins. In my opinion he just didn't do enough in most of the early rounds to score them for him.

No, personally I had the fight 115-113 but it in the end it doesn't matter because Hopkins was going to win anyway...

Well, if the announced read the scorecards right, then he did indded win by those scores. Whether or not people agree with them means absolutely nothing because the result will go down in history and no one can change that.

I've been watching and judging boxing for almost 25 years and I had the fight 116-112. Hopkins dominated that fight, controlled it. Easy question.
