vibration in a mercruiser alpha gen 11?
Ok heres what i have done.
I have removed the drive replaced the gimble bearing and all the bellows and the boots and the water line, drive oil line and had the shift cable adjusted.
It all back together last nite and ran it on water muffs in my drive way.
shifts perfect however when i shifted it in foward and ran it up to 1500 rpm's it was vibrating some and it vibrated somewhat when it was in netural also.
I just dont know if its right i dont have time to take it to the lake till next week however i dont want to break something.
By the way this was the hardest repair i have ever done to anything.
Any help would be aprecitated
No the 5.7 v/8 is running great and it ran great 3 weeks ago.
I may be being too senistive to it i just what to be sure.
No i didnt use the alginment tool because it was starting to stick in the bearing i thought so we went on with the install and the drive was tough to get on you think i have damaged the coupler?
I didnt run much on the muffs
plus i had the drive down and it wasnt in a bind.

When you reinstalled the gimble and drive unit back on the engine did you check your engine alignment? There is a special tool that you need to have to do this and if you have removed all of the outdrive unit to replace the gimble chances are you are now out of alignment. any mis-alignment will cause a vibration.

coasty has a point, about alignment. but if the unit went back on smoothly, that's probably not the answer. when you ran it on the "muffs", was it trimmed up? could simply be that you had the unit in a bind. if so, trim it down some and try again. and yeah, i've done that many times and it doesn't get much easier....probably no damage to the coupler if run time was short. do the alignment though.
