CD stuck in my CPU???!!!!?
Without paying a ton of money to the local computer store, is there a simple way for me to get it out myself? (I'm really careful seating the CD in the tray EVERYTIME I put it in for fear that this might happen one day. Can it get stuck in there for any reason OTHER than not putting it in right? (Thanks!)

Sometimes the release device that controls the opening and closing of the CD ROM drive gets "confused" and the drive's drawer won't open. Most of the time a reboot fixes the problem but not always. A couple things that you can try is to open up Windows Explorer and right click on the drive and select "Eject" from the drop down menu. If this doesn't do the trick get a paper clip and unbend it until it is straight. On the front of your CD ROM drive you will see a small hole, just big enough to fit the paper clip into. If you insert the paper clip straight into the hole you will feel it touch the manual drive door release. Gently push on the release and the door will pop open slightly allowing you to remove the disk. When you are done simply push the drawer closed and it will latch itself.
Hope this works for you,

Ditto on all of the recommendations to open the cd drive. Cd drives go out all the time. They aren't the best made products out there. It's possible that the motor is wearing out.
It's also possible that whatever is on the cd is creating a conflict & not stopping when you want it to stop. So the cd drive won't release the cd until whatever it is doing is finished. Generally the 3 finger salute will kill the process. Or reboot the entire pc & then try to eject the cd before the OS loads.

If you look on the front of your CD Rom Drive you will notice a small hole. Take a paper clip the big ones not a normal size one. Insert it into the hole and it will eject your CD.

Should be a small hole near the CD tray. Take a small wire, like a paperclip and push it in there.
This is a mechanical release for the tray.

You're really screwed if you've actually rammed a CD into your CPU!

With luck, its only actually stuck in the optical drive - just use the emergency eject. You'll need a long, thin metal object.
