DARK SHADOWS fans... Johnny Depp is Barnabas Collins?

Much as I tried, I could never warm up to DARK SHADOWS, but I do remember my mom watching the soap when I was a kid.

Now, as reported today in Variety, Johnny Depp's production company (in conjunction with GK Films) is developing a feature film based on DARK SHADOWS, in which Depp will star as the long-suffering bloodsucker, Barnabas Collins.

I dig Depp, and I'm a horror fan, but I think I'll might still have a difficult time getting too excited about seeing this adaptation. What do you DARK SHADOWS fans think? Is it any better/worse than Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt as Lestat and Louis?

    I loved DARK SHADOWS and so did all my seventh grade classmates back in 1967, that was all we talked about in that school year. It was DARK SHADOWS, and 'Barnabas Collins' that got me interested in soap operas.

    There is no substitute for Johnathan Frid as 'Barnabas' and certainly NOT Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, or Tom Cruise. Find an actor who is unknown and give him his break.

    I loved Dark Shadows and I loved Lestat and Louis but I don't think you can compare the two the only thing in common is they both have vampires in them...of course a soap is a soap and i so don't care for them( I was much younger when i watched Dark Shadows and my attraction was vampires) but I think anything that Johnny Depp is involved in will be a success.

    I adored Dark Shadows. Jonathan Frid was THE vampire. Depp as Barnabas? I don't know, but I like Depp, so he might be able to pull it off. There is no substitute for Frid in that part.

    Yes, he would be awesome in the role. I use to watch that soap and loved it. It was in fact only one of two soaps I ever watched. Johnny Depp definately!

    I think it will be great Depp has the acting chops to pull this off and he is very tone motivated.
