Thinking about purchasing a 1998 Honda Accord, is this a good buy??

I found a 1998 Honda Accord with 81k miles on it, sunroof, V6, dual exhaust, black, good condition, leather interior, it's at a buy here pay here, the guy printed me off a car fax report on it and it's clean and only had one owner, it was a new car trade in to Penske Honda... He is asking $7,695 and said that he will go down to $7,400, but no lower because then he will be loosing money. Should I do this after I get a diognosis done on it to be sure it's O.K.??

First off I have to tell you that Honda Accord V6's do in fact come with dual exhausts. In regards to the other persons comment. I should know, I work for Honda. This vehicle sounds like an excellent buy! The leather seats are very comfortable and only having one owner plus such low mileage is great! The Accord's are peppy in general, but the V6 gives you that extra boot. They are very smooth driving vehicles, and are very worth your while. $7,400 is a VERY good price for this vehicle, you are definitly getting a bargain.

I own the 97 4 cyl one myself. Have it checked by your own mechanic. While he is doing that, get a copy of the V.I.N. number. Have your mechanic check that all V.I.N. #'s on the car match up. Check with police. For deals that good, I would wonder why the car is so cheap.

Also ask who did the mods? Honda's never came with dual exhaust, so what other modifications have been done?

If everything works out well, then follow the steps below to save yourself some worry and possible repair bills.

After purchasing it, have your mechanic do the safety inspection. Then have him/her replace all fluids (tranny, oil, coolant, brake, power steering). I would then have the brake pads looked at and underside rust. If rust is minimal, get the underside sprayed (Ziebart is a good job and will maintain the life of the body). Get yourself some good quality tires, some spare fuses, the Haynes manual, and you are good to go!

It sounds like a good offer, but with the Summer Sales events going on, you might want to consider buying it new now - I hear Honda is leasing Accord LX's from $199/month

Looks like a great deal. What trim level is it? Kelly Blue book has an EX for around 9.4k and the LX is 8.2k either way it's a great deal and you should get it.
