Does it bother you when the youth of today?
cannot help but use the "texting" form of spelling when they are not actually texting?
I just saw a question on Y!A that said "Who u would u ask yur crush out".
Isn't that sad?
How can we help the youth of today overcome these bad habits? Do you think they realize how stupid it makes them look?

It drives me NUTS! I'm only 24 so I don't feel like I'm that old! However I can't even understand half the things they write!
I have not idea what that example you gave really says! That cell phone commercial with the girl talking in the text language always makes me laugh, I feel like we really do need a translation!
I can't even text like that... I just spend all my time writing everything out!

Its just a new form of shorthand. I'm sure when the first person to use shorthand tried it there were people questioning that too. Society is always in a rush for the most part texting or using texting abbreviations is just another idea in a very technical world. As long as its not going into a professional document there is nothing wrong with it and it doesn't make anyone look stupid. It just shows people are naturally busy. Probably the only ones thinking this is stupid are people to old to learn knew things and think by trying to make other feel stupid they can feel better about being technologically challenged

As a texting youth ( =] ) I see this a lot in class and such. But this lingo and abreviation of words actually orginated online. As a 15 year old, I see it all the time. I refrain from using it. All of my text messages, e-mails, etc. are in comprehendable English. I think it is sad that some people can't use proper English, but some people just can't help it. They don't think they are stupid because they understand the lingo and phrases that everyone under the age of 19 uses. I just think it adds on the American flaw, we're lazy.

the priority is there is the type of intense turnover value that managers don't have time giving youths a classification in customer help. in the event that they do, that's often some application written via the coorporation that the guy performs around with on a application for half-hour. element of a individual's physique of recommendations won't be able to truly learn in a single day the two. I found out a thank you to be friendly considering is how my father and mom raised me. Plus, the customer interplay often won't be able to final long adequate to make "small communicate." that's somewhat helpful to chit chat in regards to the aspects, however the guy (who could be a remarkable and well mannered) in the back of you are able to desire to be ravenous and in basic terms needs some nutrition.

Yes I think its horrible. People need to realize if you dont use good grammar when typing then you will not be using it in life. Bad grammar is getting contageous and it makes people seem so ignorant it drives me crazy. When I first started comunicating on computer some abbreveations were useful and even funny but the only bad grammar was usually people that use english as a second or third language. But to get back to the question Yes its sad and hopefully they dont know it makes them look stupid and continue to do it. They need to know what the rest of us think.

Nothing particularly bothers me about today's youth. In time they'll outgrow their present habits just like we did. I do feel badly that some seem to model themselves on celebrities who end up in rehab or prison, but since when haven't teens been copycats?I was.Its just that in those days poor role models weren't so evident.Texting isn't "stupid", its just something kids are doing because its quick and its a current fad. When they find out that texting won't land them a job at any place but McDonald's(maybe)they will learn spell and use a spell check. And you can take that to the bank!

Yes! And that question, even in text form, doesn't make sense. Sometimes it goes way too far! They couldn't care less how stupid they appear, so I think the only way to get them out of these habits is for them to grow up.

I pity them when they have to fill out a job application, and try that garbage. Or an essay test.
Anything that stands in the way of good communication should be avoided. This includes bad spelling, bad grammar, and a lack of sentence structure.
Don't EVEN get me started on people who don't know the difference between a plural (parents) and a possessive (parent's). :o)

This isnt just texting on the phone. people developed it when instant messaging online...about 13 years ago.
I still do it a little (I lack the ' in isnt) and sometimes dont capitalize first letters or put periods. But when it comes to formal documents, I know to be gramatically correct.

I am part of the 'youth of today' and it doesn't bother me because not all youths are like that.
You can't make a youth get over these habits, it's just something they do to A. Type faster B. Sound 'cool' I guess. They will grow out of it.
It doesn't make them look stupid, it makes them look like they are unable to spell properly.
