It is normal to loose a couple of pups during delivery or a couple days later, but loosing so many;I would get mother & pups checked out by a vet. Good luck

If this was a smaller breed of dog, there were too many puppies for the mother to be able to carry. If it's a larger breed, 10 puppies is a lot of pups to feed, however, this sounds like the mother was not ready to have these pups and there was something wrong from the beginning with the mother dog.
Sometimes if a mother dog is bred too much, or too soon this happens. It's natures way.

My dog recently had 11 pups but three died! The mother just didnt have enough milk. We had to feed the other 8 pups through a syringe!! Just make sure that the four pups you have left are cared for alot. Puppies are very snsitive and can die easily from germs or malnutrition. Look after your pups as well as you can and Good Luck!!

Don't panic, this is not abnormal. Dogs and cats have lots of babies assuming that many will die. Puppies are born alternately from both uterine horns, if every 2nd pup was born dead then it is safe to asume that their was a problem with one of the horns, maybe she fell or maybe she had a basic infection. These things happen but it is not nice, just be glad she has 4 healthy ones. In the meantime, call the vet to have her checked in case there is a problem you cannot see, a dead puppy stuck can set up an infection. This is a situation that only a vet can deal with.

Take the remaining puppies and the mother to a vet asap and then have her spayed when the pups are weaned.
Then I would smack myself some and vow never to breed an animal again because there are enough homeless animals in the world and clueless dog owners have no business adding more to that sorry state.

I agree hole heartily with DP. You should bring these pups into the vets right away. The fact that 6 pups have died already would have flown a hugh red flag to me after 2 pups died but I guess not to you.
Never breed this dam again and have her fixed as soon as the reaming pups are weaned.
I don't know where Psycho girl is right now but then she is never around to see what happens when BYB have problems and pups die.
Typical!

Call the vet, explain what's going on. I've never seen this kind of a situation at the vet office where I work, but I'd suggest not burying the dead until you talk to the vet- they may want to do a necropsy and try to determine WHY the pups are dying. And just in case the problem is the mom not wanting to take care of them, you should learn how to take care of the ones that are still alive the way you would have to if they were orphaned.

Firstly, I would take the 6 pups that just died and bury them without the mum seeing where you have buried them. (she might dig them up and might eat them, some mums do that).
Secondly, monitor to see if the other 4 pups are suckling on mum, also check to see if mom is ok. I would also get them all checked out at the vet for pre-caution sake. Having 10 pups is quite a load on mum.
Rather be safe than sorry, get them all checked out at your local vet, if he gives them the thumbs up, your on your way to having 4 lively little ones. All the best in your decision.

Take the remaining puppies to the vet and make sure they don't have something wrong with them. You may also be able to get an answer as to why the other 6 died.

OUCH.. I guess I would rethink why I thought I could breed a litter if I didn't know what the heck I was doing.. I would probably thank God that 4 lived, and I would go on.. As soon as the litter was weaned, I would spay the female and keep her as my beloved pet.. Never ever ever to breed another byb'd litter again... Yup.. that's what you should do.. Guess it's not so easy to be a breeder eh??? Where is Psycho girl or whatever her name is.. Doesn't she advocate the breeding of pets?!?
Go to the vet and find out what you did wrong.. There might be a Herpes virus that your b itch carries that is killing the pups. Could also be ecoli..
Could be lots of things..
