Make out a letter of resignation and ask for a letter of recommendation too (this is good for when employers need references). Give 2 weeks notice as not to burn any bridges because you may need them in the future for references at a later job.

It is best to talk to your supervisor and indicate that you are quitting. Before you do, have a resignation letter with the last date indicated on it. Explain that you have found another position and that you are resigning effective (date). Then hand your supervisor the letter.

Life changes allowed me to give 6 months notice at one time and I received $11,000 when giving little or no notice would have earned me nothing.

As an employer, I appreciate an employee who is thinking of leaving my company requesting a conference with me to discuss their plans.

I worked at this company for 11 years...one day I walked up to my boss and said, "I'm giving you my notice-notice, I'm leaving.". Packed up my stuff and left. Not very professional, I guess, but very satisfying.

Give a two week notice along with the letter.
By doing that, you won't burn any bridges
