Great. . . Or Not So Great. . .. . What Have You Learned By Using The Internet ?
Loads for me , but one odd thing that I wonder if you've noticed . I seem to notice the obscure , so think about this one .
TYPING - A fairly mundane subject , but is it really ?
I'm 45 and I can easily remember being totally uninterested in typing class(1 semester) . Boring . I had other interests and typing was not on the list . But after joining the Army , I realized that I had to type reports as an MP . I was very happy when I got up to 30 words a minute !! Big deal huh .LOL . Anyways , I never got better until recently when I began to use the internet . Now I can type about 60-70 words per minute , and although that's still not great , I was thinkin. . ..a couple decades ago , that would've been considered fairly good .
I also have noticed that I can type my thoughts much faster than copying something that's already in print . I wonder how many of you have ever thought about that for yourselves ?
What once was considered a talent , is now nothing more than what's expected .

Wow finally an intelligent question. I have seen some pretty lame questions on this site. It is about time.
I have learned a lot in the past couple of years since I bought a computer. Thanks for using this site in the way it is meant to be used . Asking real genuine questions.

It isn't TYPING. The schools around here call it KEYBOARDING and they start in 1st grade. When I went to high school, most guys wouldn't have been caught dead in a typing class. It was a girl thing. In the early life of the PC at work, my male co-workers would just watch as those typing classes paid off. Spelling and grammar still annoy me when people do not take the time to check the spelling. Use of incorrect words because they shorten everything and then don't pay attention to what they write. "I do not want to waist your time." I got this in an email from a Lender's Acct. Exec. that was directed to everyone in the Broker Office. I was not impressed by the Acct. Exec.
Early stages: basically was work related, just fun roaming around the WEB, and email. I learned how to find medical information from reliable sources. This was helpful when daycare tried to tell me my son was ADD at 3.
Now: everything and anything - hate junk mail, spend too many hours sometimes on YA, checking different sites I have linked as Favorites, and shopping around comparing prices and products. My sister found a Family Tree Web system so that gets me locked in but it is fun to see it build up and the pictures loaded by other family members. Love that we can connect more often this way.

Yes I know exactly what you mean. Today's Internet and PCs are an awesome tool. I have noticed that I spell better now. The learning potential is very awesome. I can remember my first experience with the Internet. It was back in 1983. I had a Radio Shack color computer with a whole 32K of ram and another 32K of ROM. I had a cassette player for a storage media and after awhile a 5.25" floppy became available. The modem I had for it at the time was a 300 baud rate modem. Back then I had to make a long distance call to hook up to CompuServe. I had over $400 in charges to my phone bill that first month.

That there's a lot of freaks out there...
30 words per minute isnt bad on the old style typewriters, new keyboards are much faster. I have trouble with accuracy even after so long. I dropped out of typing class.

As typing goes, I'm fairly <sarcasm> proficient...I kinda need to as an Executive Secretary (running about 105 word per minute).
But, what I have learned...hmmm...that the public education system in this country stinks...I have NEVER, in my life, seen so many people in one place (YA) that can't seem to understand simple spelling and punctuation.
But c'est la vie....

The internet didn't teach me how to type better since I was already about as good as I am now before I connected to the internet.
