When did the word "A$$" and "*****" became permitable in the TV?

I was born in the late 80's and I have never seen Michael Knight or Macgyver said those words.

I still am shocked when I see someone says "*****" in the series like Heroes or Smallville.

Update:

I was trying to type the word

Since TV has became perverted and we allow it by not protesting to the advertisers. Shall we start? I think it would be a good idea. Do we really need to use those words? I think not.
