There are specific courses you can take, but basically you have to be able to sell your skills. How you do this depends on what kind of dancer/choreographer you want to be. Are you thinking commercial/musical theatre/ballet? That choice dictates who is going to hire you and how you are going to work.
I started working as a choreographer before I ever took a choreography class. What is more important is how you dance and whether you can choreograph well. I started out doing the choreography for student and community productions before I moved onto the proffesional circuit. If you want to take a class, almost all universities with a theatre/dance department will have choreography classes, most community colleges will have choreography classes, and at least my high school had a class as well. So there are opportunities out there.
The courses can help, but they aren't required. You have to be able to sell yourself, and your skills.
Good luck!

You can always go to an arts college and study dance, but "professional" only means you make money doing it...whatever it is. Can you dance? Can you teach others to dance? Can you put down a little money to rent a studio to teach others to dance? There: you're a professional.
