Can I sue a company based in VA here in CA?

I bought window tint from Home Depot. The tint caused my window to crack. That is going to cost me $400 to replace. I know I have a long shot at winning a court settlement, but I have to try.

However my question is not about the case. It is about whether I can sue here in CA.

I only want to know if I can sue here in CA. I have to wonder because they are based in VA, but the product was bought at a Home Depot store in my hometown of CA. Do I sue the maker of the window tint, Gila? Or do I sue Home Depot? Both? Can I sue?

Any ideas?

According to their site, "GILA is a division of CPFilms Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of solar control films with distinction in the areas of research and technology, manufacturing, global distribution and dedicated customer service. CPFilms is headquartered in Martinsville, VA and is a division of St. Louis-based Solutia, Inc."

CPFilms (aka Gila) does business in California at the following address:

    Orange, California

    Regional Address: CPFilms Distribution Center

    1849 W. Sequoia Avenue

    Orange, CA 92868

    Telephone: (800) 447-8468

    Fax: (714) 634-0975

Before you sue either, you have to make a demand for payment for the $400. Send a certified letter requesting payment, and bring it to court if unpaid. If it goes to small claims court, make sure to add the court filing fee and service fee to the total damages you are claiming. (For example, court filing fee is $75, and service costs $10. Total claim amount is $485.)
