Is it possible to get free dental treatment in the UK?
My partner & I are claiming benefits as we are on a low income. Is it possible to get free (or reduced cost) dental treatment? My partner may need a filling & we haven't got the money to pay for it.

If you can find an NHS dentist then check with them if your benefits mean you will receive free treatment - some people find that even though they are on benefits, not all of them entitle them to free NHS treatment. If you find you do have to pay, as long as you don't have to have any treatment that requires using a laboratory (crown, denture, etc.), it will only be just over £40 for a whole course of treatment - ie: as many fillings as you need to have. hope this helps and good luck x

Yes on the NHS but the quality of care is very basic. You might find for example that you'll start to lose your teeth in your fifties like your parents generation, because NHS dentists only provide minimum preventive care, that's all the Govt pay them for.
To keep healthy teeth past your fifties you really need good advice and treatment early on, and for that you need a private dentist who's willing to make the effort.
That's still no guarantee, dental care in this country is abysmal compared to other countries like USA or Switzerland. You might go abroad and get a check up there where it's cheaper but I can't give you much advice about that.

Yes when you are claiming benefits you get free treatment on nhs most dentists take on a certain amount of nhs patients. The only problem would be to make sure you are registed at a dentist. Another way would be to be referred to a teaching dental hospital.Treatment would be free.

If you are on income support you are entitled to free dental treatment..subject to being registered with an NHS dentist.
If you and your partner are receiving Incapacity Benefit you will need to apply for a HC2 form, which will give you free dental treatment and also free prescriptions/free specs/free wigs !?!?
Speak to your local job centre plus, should you wish to request an HC2 form and they should be able to help you.
I've got the dentist this week..but thankfully only for a check-up! Not my favourite place to visit!!
Good luck and I hope your partner is not in any pain..but best to get it looked at right away.
Hope this helps:-)

yes low income, on benefits people are entitled to free NHS dental treatment, although you may have difficulty finding a dentist to take you. if you require urgent treatment then my advice would be to find your nearest dental hospital who may be able to help with an emergency, look on the NHS website and they should be able to tell you which dentists in your area are accepting new patients and it should also be able to tell you where your nearest dental hospital is.
hope this helps.

You will need to register with an NHS dentist, but they are very few and far between.
I know orthodontic work is no longer available for free, as my daughters are having braces etc done and the likely cost is going to be around £1,200 each.

You are, or your partner is, getting Income Support
Your Income Support order book, or an entitlement letter from your Jobcentre Plus Office will provide proof.
Look at this, and it will help you.
