sprained ankle and volleyball tryouts?
i sprained my right ankle about 4 weeks ago and rested for a week..it was feeling better and then i went to the open practices..now it's been a week and my ankle has started hurting again...and since i was hurt i used my left leg to support my weight more than my right leg..now both ankles feel like they still have a sprian =/
tryouts are in 2 weeks! what should i do to help speed up the healing process?? [and i'm probably not going to play until tryouts]

rest! but dont baby it.
when you go to tryouts definately have your coach or trainer look at it before you play.
they may want you to sit out or maybe do alternate exercises than the other players. You said that you've been to open practices so they already have a good idea of your abilities. And they may want you healthy for season- b/c i garuntee that it will keep bothering you until its gets a long rest.
BUT you may just have to take some meds, brace it, and tough it out. If you really want to play that is.-yOu can rest it after season.

Beaker has a great answer. The only things I would add to Beakers answer would be to talk with the coach and work those exercises with the other ankle as well.
Try not to make it sound like it is an excuse that you have the sprained ankle. Just tell the coach so that the coach knows. If it looks like you are not hustling on some plays, the coach will understand.
If you have a weak right ankle, you probably have a weak left ankle also. Work out both ankles equally. Rest the right ankle more, but work both of them when you do any ankle strengtening exercises.

sounds like you need to strengthen your ankle some more before your tryouts.
Try drawing all the letters of the alphabet with your big toe on yout hurt side. you should do this every morning and night. also try to do some ballancing excercises (find a hard board / plywood and put a tennis ball under it and ballence yourself on the board. This will help strengthen your stabilizers.
You may want to invest in some Active Ankses to wear for your tryouts to give you a little reassurance and extra support. Probably a good idea to wear them at tournaments too for a while until your ankle regains it's full strength.
Hope this helps
A note about the above method....applying heat to the area will increase blood flow wich will increase swelling and probably make it hurt more. Stretch it well before you play and ice it after.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I agree with Beaker. Just remember never ice more than 20min you could damage tissue. Also don't wear ankle braces when you are not playing V-ball the more you wear them the more your ankles become dependent on them and that can cause problems.

don't play at all until tryouts .u should probably go see a physical therapist or something. it would help if u tape your ankles when u play it takes away some pain. also ice it twice a day

kay heres the deal since you favored your right ankle, your left ankle took a dive. the best way to heal sprained ankles is to stick em in ice water.i no it sounds crazy but itll help tremendously. also get ankle braces bcause when you sprain your ankle once, its easy to resprain them later

use the hot and cold method. use heat before you go to your try outs with like a rice bag. then after your tryouts put ice on it. the heat helps blood flow to it to help with movement, and the cold helps lower the swelling.
