A lot of good tips already but let me add a few additional points. I too hit a 10.5* too high and went to a 9.5*. I recently purchased the new Taylor made burner (2007 model) from a demo day. They put me in another shaft to get a more boring launch. The stock shaft caused the ball to ballon.

So consider loft and just as important shaft.

As for getting the cost down, consider eBay. I've picked up a lot of equipment either new or used for a lot less then you'd spend in a store.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net/

before you spend your 160.00 on a new driver have a Pro check your swing. You may have a small swing flaw that is causing the perceived trajectory problem. 10.5 is pretty much average really. A lot of pros are hitting that loft. the difference is that they know how to control their ball flight. Today the lower lofts of yesterday are pretty much a gone with the wind kind of thing.

i assume you mean the old bubble burner not the new one

go to any golf store with a driving range and try out the used drivers chances are you will find very good brands that were new just last year for what you can afford

Go to a store that has an indoor range and try them until you find one you like. I have found that the cheap brands of driver are inconsistent. You can have two identical drivers where one hits great and the other doesn't.
