How would you rate this statement on slavery?

Question

After reminding a person whose question on slavery I answered that  slavery existed in Africa and Saudi Arabia too, I was told that "Slavery in Africa and Saudi Arabia never got cruel." Is this person under the impression that North American slavery was the only form of slavery that was cruel?

 How would you rate this person's statement?

It shows someone who has a blinkered view on life

NOT CRUEL

North African slaves were sold and forced to fight for the entertainment of paying crowds (and not just to the Romans, other civilisations did the same)

And African tribes enslaved by conquerors like the Zulus were used as sex slaves, forced labour etc etc

I would guess the person who posted that was coloured and only sees what happened to their ancestors as slavery.

Slavery was cruel no matter what nation/race/civilisation did the enslaving yet it's only one specific group that are still making an issue about it.

I guess you have to explain to this person that any attempt to limit an individual's freedom is wrong. My guess?  Since slavery in Africa and the East was (is) especially cruel to women I think he may be a bit sexist also.

Slavery, in all forms, is cruel.  There has been throughout history, slavery worldwide.  Voluntarily being indenutered to another person is the only acceptable form of it in my view.
