Is the song "hotel california" by the eagles about a real place/event? Or is it just a fictional song?

    There is a Hotel California. It was built in 1948 by a Chinese immigrant. But the Eagles never went to it. The Hotel is in Mexico actually. Its currently owned by a Canadian couple and is acsessable by a "desert highway"
