Isn't just waiting in line for 30+ minutes to pay a toll pretty much just contributing to pollution, etc, et?

I waited at LEAST 30 minutes to pay a toll in Chicago and I couldn't see an upside to this fiasco whatsoever. First it contributes to: polluting the environment (ie: 1,000's of cars just sitting there idling for long periods of times), road rage, near missed accidents, waste of gasoline which is supposedly in high demand right now and sky high gas prices. I just don't undestand this at all maybe because I don't live in the Chicago area but it's like we are being punished while having to wait to pay a toll. Isn't there a better way?? And, no, noone hardly at all uses the ipass. 99.9% of the cars had to pay cash like me. Why doesn't Chicago (and other citiies) try and alleviate these needless things instead of aggrevating these things?

Update:

Does anyone feel like me!!!!???

i agree completly .. they really need to speed up the process of this because countless cars waste alot of fuel waiting to pay a toll and sometimes all the ipass lanes are shut..it was better when all the toll roads had booths in each lane,,and there was someone wrking in each one most of the time

I understand how you feel as I had to wait to pay a toll nearly an hour once, but I now have IPass and usually don't have to wait at all. Though of course people just passing through aren't going to have this convenience. I've also seen people accidentally drive into the I-PASS lane and totally freak out and nearly cause accidents trying to get into the "old" lanes. Sometimes they even back up...ON THE TOLLWAY.

And just FYI, missing just one toll won't get you any sort of penalty, so maybe...you know. I don't think they do anything for the first violation. The info is on their website somewhere, but obviously there are cameras and if you purposefully blow a toll its probably pretty obvious. I'm just saying.

I just thought I'd also ad you pay higher tolls than I-PASS users. They make you pay more because they are trying to encourage everyone to use the I-PASS.

If you blow a toll in Chicago you can get on line and pay it without panalty. But for residents with Ipass the nitmarish traffic we had before is practically non existent. I remember waiting for hours in traffic because of the manual tolls, now I just fly by.

    Go Ipass.

Have you have ever heard of someone crying with rage, over a new washer? Well, I had such a hissy fit yesterday. The washer was plumbed in by my partner and then he went home. Oh, my God, that machine nearly took off. A plumber came tonight and the bolts holding the drum in place had not been removed!!. A simple little job put the smile back on my face.

Yeah but Chicago has to do something in order to keep skyscrapers being built, tourists attractions paid for, the parks kept beautiful, the fountians running, the trains running, and new roads/tunnles/bridges to be built.
