Is it against labor laws not to give a break after working 8 hours?
I live in Illinois, not sure if that matters, but I used to worked for this outfit for 8 hours and was told that I got paid for working 8 hours and that does not include breaks. In addition I was told that I was not entitled to get paid for any minutes after 8 hours worked when balancing out the cash drawer, that usually took 15 minutes.

Federal regulation dictates that for an 8 hour shift you be allowed 2 ten minute breaks and a thirty minute lunch. of direction reckoning on what state you reside in somewhat determines if a criticism approximately it is even observed. In Idaho there are no hard paintings rules common approximately breaks and that's a proper to paintings state. This in certainty potential that they might hearth you in case you chosen to take a smash, happen late, pizz the boss off, something, no reason. right here I surely have held countless jobs have been i'd paintings without breaks for 8 hours or extra at a time. I surely have tried to show out that the federal regulation precedes the state rules yet right here there are merely some people who're keen to do something approximately it if, if any. maximum legal experts right here would chortle you out of the place of work because of the fact it is not somewhat worth it to them to take the case. despite if it is unlawful none the less so communicate on your union or your boss approximately it. If no longer the rest they are going to teach how enormous of an fool they are. FEDERAL regulation IS utilized before STATE rules. this implies that if the state regulation says you purely get 5 min then it is not significant cuz federal says 10 min and 10 min it is.

The usual labor board finding is a fifteen minute break in a 4 hour period, and at least a half hour for lunch if the shift is 7 hours or more.

If you are under 18 they have to give you a Break that is the law and they can get in trouble for not doing it.If you are over 18 you also are to get a 30 minutes lunch hour.and if you work past your 8 hrs they have to pay you for that.If Someone was to turn them in they would be in Big Trouble.
