Those boards are really a crap shoot, you have no idea who your actually getting the information from. If you don't believe in god, or anything else then why would you believe in ghosts and the ouija board to begain with.

Using an ouija board means you are trying to contact a spirit from the other side. But, there is really no way to tell if who is answering you, and if you are getting sound information or not. Demons (Yes Demons) like to give answers that will upset you whether they are true or not, and often times is something is true and it's painful even more the better for them. A friend of mine was playing with one of those things, and it told her her dad was going to die, two actual days before he did of heart failure.

Personally I would just throw it out and never touch it again.

Many people who use ouija boards have a strong faith system, but they are also using magic to protect themselves and the ones using the board with them. You need more information about ouija boards, magic and protection prior to using it my friend, and my guess is that is what your father was telling you.

The prayer is for protection prior to use. The board is used to facilitate communication with energies, both positive and negative. Either may choose to communicate with you, and ideally, you want to steer clear of any nasties out there. In addition to prayer, surround yourself with white light. (You can also invoke Archangel Michael for protection.)

Don't use those things! They can open you up to all sorts of evil spirits and demons, just DO NOT mess with them. That's my advice.
