How can you replace vanilla bean for vanilla extract?
Is there an easy way? What difference is there in taste?

A direct replacement for vanilla extract would be to slice the bean lengthwise and soak it in triple sec. After 12 hours or so, you've got vanilla extract.

I soak a split vanilla bean in a tiny bottle of Jack Daniels for a few months and use that instead of extract. Awesome. I also keep a sealed container of white sugar with a vanilla bean in it an use the vanilla sugar in baking and with coffee.
Baking is a science - I would not use a dry ingredient ( vanilla bean seeds) where a wet one (extract) is called for.

One of the best ways to substitute bean for extract is to slice the bean lengthwise and scrape out the gooey innards. This is where the flavor comes from and you can use this to flavor foods just as you would vanilla extract.
Hope this helps!

I don't think that there would be much difference in taste...just scrape the seeds into the recipe....or soak them in a little vodka or cream first...just a guess
