    4 years of college + 4 years of medical school + 5-8 years residency.

    The length of residency is variable because some residencies have required research years.

    4 Years of undergraduate college

    4 years of medical school

    5 years of residency

    So about 13 years of school, but you get paid (although only a small amount) during the 5 years of residency.
