Can someone help: How can I open a pdf file from my Outlook express?

Out of nowhere, when I opened pdf files with attachments from Outlook, it started trying to open them with Word. It had been automatically opening them as a pdf until this past weekend; it worked fine for the last 9 months. When I try to open it with an alternate program, it wont do. And now, all pdf files on this computer are trying to open with word. How can I change it back to normal?

First off, is Adobe reader still installed? If not, install it.

If it's there, you need to associate .pdf files with the adobe reader.

    Control Panel-->Folder Options-->File Types

Scroll down to pdf. Under details for pdf files it probably says "Word". Click Change. Choose Adobe Reader. Click ok.

you can probably try this.. Right Click the file and you would see the open with option in the menu... Once you click on Open With Option you would come up with a list of programs that could probably be used to open the pdf files..

If an Adobe Acrobat reader is not available in the option you can click on the browse button and search for the program acrobat.exre or acrord32.exe file in your hard disk.. the file is usually located in the c:\programfiles\adobe\ folder.

select the acrobat reader and next time you double click the pdf file it will open with adobe acrobat reader

    does that help!!

To associate a file with a program

    Open My Computer.

    Double-click a drive or folder.

Right-click a file, and then click Open With. If Open With is not available, click Open.

Follow the instructions under the option that matches the dialog box you see:

    Open With--Recommended Programs list

Under Programs, click the program in which you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program you want.

    -or-

Click the look for the appropriate program on the Web link to search the Web for a program to open your file.

    Open With--No Recommended Programs list

Under Programs, click the program in which you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program you want. You can also type a comment that provides information about the file type. This information will appear in the folder window under Details when you view the file in a folder.

    -or-

Click the look for the appropriate program on the Web link to search the Web for a program to open your file.

    Cannot open this file

Windows cannot find a program to open the file. In the Cannot open this file dialog box, do one of the following:

Click Use the Web service to find the appropriate program. This enables you to search the Web for the program that will open the file.

    -or-

Click Select the program from a list to choose a program to open the file in the Open With dialog box.

    Notes

To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.

For some file types, you will right-click a file, point to Open With, and then click Choose Program.

To ensure that Windows always uses the same program to open the file, or any other file with the same file name extension, in the Open With dialog box, select the Always use this program to open these files check box.

First of try and uninstall Adobe reader and then re-install. The spyware might have corrupted some of the registry entries for the software. Also if possible you could try a system restore to a point before the computer had spyware issues. Hope that helps :)
