Searching for Salazar's roots.?
Buenas,
I'm a fourth generation of Salazar's from Philippines. My Dad, started inquiring about who was the man who came to Philippines during the conquest of the new world which we got our family name. But, unfortunately my Dad is getting too old to expend energy on this quest, so I took over as the eldest of the sibling. Any leads, I would be very grateful.
Muchas Gracias.
Know your world history. Philippines was colonized by Spain for 300 years. Spanish is one of the languages we speak.
Hi Coy,
Buen man, y tu? Thanks for the response, that was fast. 1892 was my last of the clan, after that nothing, no records, old people are also dead, LOL.

Hi, Al. Que tal ya tu?
Five years ago, I was tasked to take part in the documentation of our family roots. We started from zero - no records at all.
We managed to contact the oldest people in the clan and asked from them who their forebears were and so are their ascendants. When we have all the information, we put them all together and came up with a book.
While reading the supporting text of your question, a former teacher from MSU-IIT came to my mind. I am sure this person's husband is related to you (unfortunately, I forgot Mrs. Salazar's first name). Probably, you can start tracing roots from there and other relatives. Then put the data together as we did. It took us years to put the pieces together but nevertheless we were successful with our quest.
This is the closest info I could get for you:
Alonso de Salazar was the first European (Spanish) explorer to "discover" the Marshall Islands on August 21, 1526. De Salazar was in command of Santa Maria de la Victoria but is not known to have landed. He is believed to have sighted the Bokak Atoll. His vessel was the last surviving ship from Frey Garcia Jofre de Loaysa's expedition attempting to expand on Ferdinand Magellan's previous global circum-navigation.
Good luck!
