I had a tubal after the birth of my youngest child; since I was having a c-section, the doctor was able to perform the tubal at the time of my delivery. (I have since had a hysterectomy).

Usually, though, a tubal ligation is done via a laparoscopic portal near your navel. The surgery isn't painful and is over with pretty quickly. And, yes, you will still have regular periods afterwards.

Speak to your doctor about it. Be warned though, some doctors and/or religions require a husband's signature before you can have the tubal performed.

Yes, a vasectomy can reverse itself. Speak with your husband concerning having a tubal. He should put your health ahead of all else. I have a friend who didn't have her first baby until she was 36; five girls later, her husband still wanted a boy. Now, 7 years later, they have a boy and she was able to have her tubes tied. She is a teeny thing and each pregnancy was harder and harder on her, but her husband insisted on a boy.

Do it for your feminine health. You can assure yourself you will most likely be around to see your two children grow up. It is great you have an understanding husband.

If you have a c-section, yes, the doctor can take care of it at that time. Either way, even if you have to wait four weeks, you know you are taking care of yourself. Good luck and congrats on new baby.

I know this is probably a silly question, but do you still get your period after your tubes are tied? Was the surgery painful? How long did it take for you to feel better?

My Mom had it done about 17 years ago. I remember she was in the bed and she looked real sick. I was only 6 at the time. My Dad had to take care of us for maybe a week I think, it was awesome. I was so young though I can't remember how long it took her to feel better.

She still gets her period.

Your hubby/boyfriend won't get HIS tubes tied? It's alot easier on them. Or you can have (not sure of the name) one of those things put in you that'll keep you from getting pregnant for up to 5 years and then you can have another one inserted. Then if for some reason you want another child you can have it taken out easily.

I had my tubes tied many years ago..Still have periods (unfortunately!) They did the surgery a day after the birth, if you can survive childbirth you can survive having your tubes tied. Other than feeling a burning sensation on the inside of the belly for about two days-nothing major. Just remember that NO birth control method is 100%.
