Charging the a/c system of 1992 silverado with R-12?

I have charged my 1997 F-250 a/c system with R-134a in the past, it was a simple process. Will charging the 1992 silverado with R-12 involve the same steps as i did charging the F-250. The a/c system in the 1992 silverado is still blowing cold air, but not as cold as when it was new.

First of all, do you have R-12? It has not been available to the general public since your truck was brand new, and R-134a will not work in an R-12 system. There is a refrigerant called Freeze-12 available now which can be used in a stock R-12 system without modifications. I have a 1993 Silverado with the original R-12 system, and the Freeze-12 actually made the system run colder than the R-12 ever did! So I would suggest you look into that.

It is the same process, but you aren't gonna find R-12 for sale anywhere anymore, not even in a shop unless you're extremely lucky. I would convert to R-134a. I have in my 93 S-10 and it works just fine. Should probably take it to a shop to have it done right.

Generally, it's the same process except finding R-12 is a challenge.

R-12 is being phased out. You need to covert the system to R-134.

It`s the same process but different pressures.

It should be a simple process. Just make sure you don't overcharge or it will freeze the air compressor or burst a line.

    You cannot mix the two
