Will slow cooking low quality chicken make it palatable?

So a while back against my better instincts we purchased some cheaper chicken not knowing the quality. After cooking with it a few times to make sure it wasn't my error, I discovered the chicken is really low quality. It shrinks and gets tough.

But I still have a bunch left, and would rather not just throw it out if possible, and I am trying to find something to do with it.

So I'm curious if slow cooking it will make it palatable? What about making soup with it, would that work too?

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

Thank you in advance.

I would stew it, either in a slow cooker or on the stove top. Soup is also a good idea. Because you are cooking it in a lot of liquid, it will be not lose moisture, there for no shriveling or toughness.

Slow cooking in the Crock pot for 6-8 hours will make it extremely tender.

Use a recipe that calls for liquid though.

You could use a jar of salsa. Put chicken and salsa in crock pot, cook on low all day. Shred chicken with fork and use for chicken tacos, burritos, or a southwest type salad.

You could do the same with a bottle of BBQ sauce or a jar of sweet and sour sauce for a more asian flare and serve over rice.

As long as the recipe calls for liquid it will tenderize the chicken. Soups or stews would also do the trick.

    Good luck!

A pressure cooker will make the chicken more tender and using seasoning will make it taste better. Chicken cooked on a high temperature will even make high quality chicken tough. Also cooking it for a long time will make it tough. A pressure cooker uses steam for a short time to cook. You need to brown it before you put it in the pressure cooker or it will come out the same color it went in. Hope this helps!

Soup or braise should do it.

Replace any water in the recipe with low sodium chicken stock and you will get some decent flavor.

Make sure the recipe isn't particularly delicate so that other flavors will compensate.

Is the meat "old laying hens?" If so, it should make decent stock.

I, though, would be very hesitant to eat meat that was of unknown origins and cooking up odd. Better to waste it than to get sick.

It couldn't hurt to give the slow cooker a try. Yet the soup idea sounds good too. You might even use it in a casserole. But slow cooking it however(boiling or cooker) just might be what it needs.
