How do you avoid taking revenge on an aquaintance?
I was hired by a friend to help with the planning of her wedding. I just asked to be paid for services I provided and she tells me there is no money left to pay me. I worked on this for a year and 1/2. She said I could return all the merchandise and keep the money but all the receipts are at least 8 months old. Should I cancel the rented material (linens, glasses, plates...) and get my money back from that? We do not have a contract - I know shame on me - but I learned my lesson believe me...I quit this job and have become on the uninvited list. I just invisioned her opening cards to pay me and her fiance did not sign up for this...

Did the wedding take place?? Hopefully not.
If not, get everything you can back. sell items at flea market(even on ebay - better than nothing) or save for another wedding. Definitely cancel the rental material - let her figure out what to do next. Or you could order the wrong items and have stuff delivered in the wrong colors. Who ordered the food? Change the menu up a bit wiht hot dogs and hamburgers.
Jashy - you're so f***in retarded.

This will be a hard lesson learned for both of you. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that you should have had a written contract with her. That doesn't necessarily mean she would have paid you, because she still should without one considering you are friends, but it would have provided some proof if you sought legal recourse.
That being said, you are out money for the rentals, so I would absolutely cancel them.
Hopefully, you can also get some of the money back from returns. If not, try selling them on eBay. Who knows, you may actually be able to turn a profit that way.

friendships and unmet expectations... isn't life grand! If you can't trust a friend to do the right thing who can you expect? Well the answer is - no one, not even a friend.
Don't get me wrong. I was just lamenting the fact that I don't have a 'best' friend and I do think you can't have enough friends but business is business and that's a hard lesson to learn especially when dealing with friends.
I don't think that is one thing you can do about what's happened except, as you said, learn from the mistake and move on. Oh yea, revenge is pointless. Regardless of whether you get to see it or know about it, all things come around. No doubt about that.

Damn! You call that a friend? No way! You definitely should cancel it all and get all your money back! She's not a friend, don't call her that!
