77 monte carlo wont pass smog?

Question

I have a 77 Monte Carlo that wont pass smog, but I'm getting decent mileage about 12mpg, and if it doesn't pass smog my dad wants me to sell it and buy a new truck, it was my moms first car, and i don't want to sell it.
Its been parked for last part of a decade, but runs, needs tranny seals.

It wasn't passing smog before it was parked.

Guess it depends on where you live. Here, in Texas, anything over 25 years old is considered an antique and doesn't require a smog certification. My '65 and '68 Mustangs only require a safety inspection, no smog check.

get an antigue tag . just make sure your car is in good condition . not perfect just good, for a 77 you dont need to pass smog test with an antigue tag . the second person is right

well probably not a lot you can do about it. Wouild cost you a small fortune to update it to make it pass. And 12 mpg is not good btw. I get better milage with my 3/4 tom 4x4.

if you dont live in cali. it may not need to it may be old enough not to need it 
and 12 mpg isnt good for that car it probably has a 305 it should get at least 18 tune it up it may pass

well its old enough for a antique plate so now you dont have to pass smog or state inspections

have a exhaust repair shop look at it , it may need new catalytic converters , or something
