Is your Grandmother grandmotherly??

My daughter "complains" that she doesn't have a grandmother with gray hair tied back in a bun, bakes cookies, knits or sews,

wears "grandma" glasses, etc. In fact, she took my daughter to a BSB concert and went with me to a Rolling Stones concert a few years ago.

My mom is 69 years old and still rocks! (My dad is 72 and still plays on a baseball team w/ his church!)

Her other grandmother is an invalid so we can't compare her cuz it wouldn't be fair.

What's yours like and do you think the generation your grandparents were born in makes a difference for how they live their "golden years?"

Update:

I meant that my daughter complains in a joking way. That's why the word is in quotation marks.

She thinks her grandparents are the coolest!

I think it's cool that your mother still knows how to be active....

One of my grandmothers was the gray-haired cooking baking type...... the other was a fast driver, shopaholic, who would say anything....

guess which one I had more fun with......

dude... her grandparents rock! I wish my grandparents could take rock music and play basketball. My grandmothers however are VERY grandmotherly. My grandmas don't have gray hair tied back into a bun, but that's where it stops. They do bake cookies along with tons of recipies past down for generations. One wears glasses(the big old people kind.) The other wears contacts or glasses. They both are into the crafts of needle point, sewing, etc. But they are only in their 60's. My grandpas don't do sports as they tire out easily, so I have to kick only my brother's butt when we go over to their house. Plus the grandparents that lived with us just moved to florida... today! So they are officially retired people! Yup I got the typical grandparents. Tell your daughter her grandparents rock and that I a teenager(I don't know how old she is) Would love grandparents to hang out with.

Now, if my firends were to come along.... that might be a different story. ;)

How old is your daughter? She might just be at the time in her life where she's watching shows/being exposed to things that portray grandparents in a stereotypical way and she feels like she's missing out on something. But the way I see it your mom is totally awesome! I'll bet soon enough your daughter will be able to appreciate her grandmother for who she is not what she is!

I have one grandmother who does everything! You wouldn't guess that she's a grandmother she looks great and she's in perfect mental health. She's definitely not the stereotypical grandmother but I definitely appreciate that. It makes me feel less awkward around her and less scared that I'm going to break something in her house.

My grandma will be 80 in January. She still drives and is out and about all the time. She likes to bake even though she isn't the best cook. But she is also very meddlesome and overbearing and tends to push people away because she says alot of hurtful things. She tries to be nice but sometimes I think she just can't help being stuck in her ways.

I agree that the joke was funny, but the question has merit. Not a simple question in truth. I think it deserves a serious response. There are crazy people who are in a hospital because they can't lie about still "being Napoleon". If a child is scared, you need to assure them "nothing bad will ever happen to you" to get them to sleep, getting them through the night. But tell them you told a "white lie" before they go trusting boys, alone in the dark, and find out the hard way that "something bad CAN happen to you". Don't lose your credibility trying to be too clever. God judges your heart. What is your motive? If you tell a little white lie to spare the child pain, or fear, God forgives you!

    Both of mine are dead.

Both were grey haired old ladies and wore glasses.

One was very grandmotherly, she interacted with us and she did typical grandmotherly things, grew a garden, baked, told us stories, hugged and kissed us, etc.

the other one was a mover and a shaker, and when I say mover and a shaker I mean she played bingo and played in a kitchen band. she wasn't real affectionate or grandmotherly but she was still a lot of fun.

My grandma is just like that. She likes modern music and is totally awesome. She even reads the same kind of books that i do. The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. But she also cooks and does other things like that. My grandma Rocks. I love my Mita. (Mita is what i call her.) It's spanish.

My grandma is lazy and acts like a four year old. She always complains about her pills. When you ask her out to eat she always says no, and trys to bug me and my mother when were in a hurry. She acts like the entire world is against her, and always responds " im going to die soon, anyways " i think it's rather sad..

I think it's a blessing that she knows her grand-parents. I never knew any of mine. They had all died by the time I was 2 years old. She is very blessed indeed!

I'm sorry, but all my grandmothers are deceased! I only got to know one of them and yes, she was grandmotherly!
