Question about tomtoes.?

I have a couple of tomato plants in my yard. The ones that are starting to turn red all look like they have a crack on the top, going partially down the side. It looks like a butt crack, actually.

Why is it cracking like that?

Too much watering will do that.

The skin on the tomato is often fragile on many varieties. Certain varieties are more prone to "cracking" than others are. The sudden abundance of water is what causes this cracking because the plant itself will uptake this water far faster than the fruit will expand during that period. Cracking is a cosmetic issue and the cracks usually heal quickly. The flavour and usability of the tomato is not normally affected by this cracking so don't discard them over this issue.

There are literally thousands of tomato varieties available. If this cracking bothers you, then choose a variety that is known to resist cracking.

Watering! Consistent watering helps prevents those cracks. Tomato plants are very sensitive plants and you need to water the plants regularly. It really depends on the soil but you should water them moderately every other day.
