Is there anyway he can retake the exams? If not, then get over it, because he's had his chance at studying whatever he chose and for whatever reason he failed.
Go out and find a job, and then when he starts earning some regular cash, he can always choose to go back to studying again if he really wants to, but there are no guarantees that you will pass a course even if you stuck at it for the full duration. Not everyone is cut out for the courses they choose to do. Studying is not an excuse for putting off work really, unless all that studying is leading him somewhere or is gonna be of use to him in life.

a) That person should really give this some serious thought..does he really want this? Is this course the way to do something he really wants in life ahead. If yes, put everything you have to it. Study harder, concentrate and make that 'yes' everything you have. If however, there isnt that full 'yes', that person should think about making a kind of detour. If he already thinks its been "wasted two years", then that is a clear indication of it being done for the mere sake of it. This is the time to try and put everything you can in studies; don't waste time in something you have clear indications of not having passion for and not being able to do.
Hope this helps and good luck!

You may have failed the exam, but you can't say two years have been wasted! You learned a lot of valuable things along the way, and had a lot of valuable life experiences. The things you learned will carry you far. You're better off now than when you started.

Dont think of that as a waste. That person tried and couldnt pass. Education is never a waste. Dont lose self confidence and dont listen to people who dont cheer you up. Try again harder and this time promise that you will pass. Getting a good degree will help you carve your future.

Try again. And this time, BE PREPARED in taking the exams.
It would help a lot if you take a course that you are really interested in.
