Ehat date was lord of the rings copyrighted?

If you don't know the date, at least give me the year.

    I don't have the exact dates, but they were published in the 1950s. They won't be in the public domain for another 20 years at least.

    I think the original copyright on The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien was either 1952 or 1954. The paperback that I have from Ballentine Books has a copyright of 1965.

    published in 1954 and 1955. Works published from 1923-1977 retain copyright for 95 years. No such works will enter the public domain until 2019.
