There is a small hole in the crater of my tooth. (It's a cavity)How will the dentist fix it?
I have noticed some pain in one of my molor tooth the last few days. I look at it in the mirror with a flash light, and i noticed a little hole in the crater of the tooth. Will this be fixed with a filling, or worse? I am terrified of the dentist, and the cost. I jsut had a dentist appointment a few months ago, and everything was fine. I brush and floss and rinse everyday.
I know this is a cavity. It hurts when i drink something cold or breath in air on it.
I made an appointment and will be seeing the Dentist on Monday! I am terrified, because im afriad they will pull it out or do something really expensive like a root canal. I was just wondering if a filling will fix it?

Without an exam and an x-ray, it is impossible to say whether in fact it is a cavity. But, from your description it does sound like one. Just a small pit cavity, the most common kind.
The dentist will first numb up the area so you won't feel a thing. He'll then take a tiny drill to get rid of the bad part of the tooth and fill it, probably since it's a molar, amalgum. You'll be done before you know it. I understand being nervous, but you don't have anything to worry about!

Before the small hole can be filled, the dentist has to remove all the infected and affected dentyne (that's the hard part of your tooth) because if the dentist simply filled the hole with something, you could have a very serious infection going on under the filling - serious enough that it could be fatal. Many people are afraid of the dentist - and in the olden days, there was good reason. But today's dentists are not like that. In fact, there are some dentists who have specialized in working with frightened patients. They are absolutely wonderful. The thing with a small hole is, that the longer you leave it, the larger it gets and dental caries can spread to other teeth as well. So for your own sake, make an appointment soon. Check in the yellow pages of the phone book, or google up dentists in your home town and find out which ones specialize in treating people who are scared of dentists.

If you just had an examination a few months ago then this couldn't be that large of a cavity, if in fact it is one. The treatment would be to remove the decay and put in a bonded restoration [either tooth colored composite or amalgam]. This is the smallest kind of cavity so don't sweat it.

Calm down and relax, it can be fixed simply by filling the hole up. Unless the cavity is covering the whole tooth, the solution is to apply filling. A full tooth cavity is resolved by pulling out the tooth by hand. The filling you will get will be painless. If the dentists have pull the tooth out you will be given plenty of pain-killers to dull the pain.

.They dont know if its a cavity yet because they have to x-ray..and..all that stuff.
But.if it is a cavity you dont have to worry about ANYTHING.unless your like me and you have dentalphobia.
They use gel first and leave you sitting there for a few minuets.then they come back and .use a shot to numb it up.
I got my cavity filled 2 days ago so i know what its like, but since i`m scared of shots,I was terrified.
But your probably not like me so dont worry about it.They`ll use a drill .You wont feel anything,But if your tooth is sensitive(when somthing metal touches it) then tell them to be carefull and they surely will.
so yeah good luck!

Probably silver amalgam filling, depending on how deep the little hole is. Don't wait, go see the dentist ASAP.
