When a woman/man asks "Are we boyfriend/girlfriend...?"...?

- What is your view on this? Especially when your relationship has just begun, how do you feel when you're approached this question (even if by your own self, or your partner usually)? Are you annoyed, because you would rather have the relationship progress on its own? Or is it natural for you because it provides a "What We Are"-understanding between you and your partner?

I hope my question isn't too confusing due to my explanation, but I was initially curious when I came across one guy who was afraid when his partner would ask him "What are we?" within the first week of dating. So to further that, I'm curious for what YOU guys personally think when coming to terms of a relationship!

Update:

LOL I like the answers so far (3 ct.), but I'm afraid I'm going to have to be more specific in case somebody assumes incorrectly...

When I used "Are we bf/gf?" up there, I mean it loosely--to say that when your partner just questions the status of the relationship in general. He/she could go, "What are we? Are we dating? 'Going out'? Flinging?..." You know. (This, however, does bring me to another question... ^_^)

I know what you mean. I have been in this situation several times. My response has always been that instead of quickly slapping labels "boyfriend, girlfriend", let things progress and what is more important is the connection. As you get closer to someone, you will know when things get to that next level.

If my partner asked me this, I would think that there would be something that I'm not doing proving to them that I consider them a boyfriend(holding hands, kissing, etc.).

Sorry, but it sounds like you are dating a five year old. Honestly, who SAYS that?
