Is there a type of dog that would be best for me?

My boyfriend and I just moved into an apartment and we are allowed to have a dog with a 20lb weight limit. We have to pay a onehundred dollar deposit if we decide to get a dog to the apartment complex. Is there any type of dog that we should get that wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg, is under twenty pounds, and is not kamikaze?

Update:

Another thing... I don't want a froufrou (if that's how you spell it) dog, like a poodle

I agree with going to the shelter.

there are lots of little ones under 20 lbs, and probably within your price range.

I suggest you take up obedience classes (BOTH YOU and YOU BOYFRIEND because it doesn't work if you don't keep the training consistent).

you will need to walk your dog daily.

this helps them to work off energy in a positive way, keep them calmer, and less barking will occur.

also, they work off their aggression, frustration, and will make for a happier relationship.

also, this is good for bonding with your dog.

there are a ton of varieties, like papillons, chihuahuas, yorkies, jack russells, (very energetic), boston terriers, pugs, lhasa apso, shih tszu, poodles, pomeranians, pekingnese, shall I go on? not counting the tons of mixed breeds you will encounter, and many are great potential pets.....

be sure to look at those that are more calm. ask about the dog's history, if they know it.

*always be calm and assertive when dealing with dogs. they pick up on this energy, and are easier to handle and train.

NEVER be excited or emotional. this ends up in yaps, barks, and this is also when dogs will bite and attack. its called excited/dominant state, and not good.

    I wish you luck!

look on the internet at AKC.com or in an encyclopedia because then you can find a dog that will work for you both, personally you might want to look into terriers because they are a smaller breed and they are really great dogs, and there are a variety of them. With some terriers you need to take them to the groomers every so often but not all of them. Like a: Australian Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Glen of

    Imaal Terrier, Parson

    Russell Terrier

I have a Shitzu and a Tea Cup Poodle mix.

She would have cost you both an arm and leg.

I would try looking for someone in your area who is selling or giving a dog away for free.

You can also go to the shelter and look for the right dog but look for a friendly dog. Plus, I don't think you would want a little yappy dog that barks at everything that walks through the front door.

since you live in an apartment complex you don't want a dog that will bark a lot so i would suggest a toy poodle or a Pomeranian those are small quiet dogs and very easy to house break
