Popping the cherry?

I understand the term "to pop the cherry" is to make the woman lose her virginity. But, why does it hurt? And how badly does it hurt?

it depends on the girl. it hurts because something (membrane) is being broken. i've heard it hurts pretty bad, and you usually bleed. it also doesnt have to be broken during sex, it can happen during other activities like horse back riding or gymnastics.

It refers to when you break a membrane at the opening of the vagina. It is a thin border of skin called the hymen and in some women it is still "intact" the first time they have sex. (In other women, this membrane breaks beforehand, it can happen by doing activities like bike-riding or horse-riding or masturbating etc) Look up hymen on Wikipedia for more info.

Because you're tearing skin, it will usually hurt a little bit, but how much depends on the individual. There are loads of factors like how aroused/wet she is, how psychologically tuned in she is (whether she's mentally prepared for sex or not), how big the guy is, how thick her hymen is...it is painful for some people and bleeds quite a lot, not very painful for others. And for some girls who broke their hymen before having sex it won't hurt at all.

Another factor, which isn't the actual "cherry" part, is that the vagina is often very tight in virgins, as they are not used to having anything up there and it hasn't stretched, so there can also be a little bit of pain there too.

It is a truly horrible and often traumatic pain for most girls. There can be a great deal of blood, I mean A LOT of blood and the girl can continue to bleed ( like she has her period ) for a day to two days after. It is also the most likely time for her to catch an STD from you if you have one so wear a condom! Use lots of lubrication ( KY Jelly ) and be very very gentle and stop if she tells you. Understand if she is upset afterward or worried about how much she is bleeding. Remember it may be fun for you but it is not going to be pleasurable for her. Don't try to have sex again for several days after the first time. That too can be horribly painful. I remember thinking I was being torn in half. I had tears running down my face it hurt so much

It can hurt because when a woman is having sex for the first time she is usuall nervous and so not very well lubricated or relaxed. Thats why it hurts for some and not for all. The best way to avoid the pain is to make sure she is at ease. Its not the skin tearing that hurts its the fear or it hurting.

They got this thing called a hymen which is fold of membrane in the vagina that you have to get out your way when you stick her for the 1st time, or if something happened to it prior.

it hurts because you're breaking through skin in a very sensitive area. and...i don't know how badly it hurts.
