how do you wipe your p.c. when you cant log on?

Just been given a desktop p.c.. and I want to wipe it and start again with my stuff but I cant log on and the previous owner cant remember username or password cos his pc has been lying idle for years.

Shall I just bin it or what?

    You'd probably be best off reinstalling windows from disk on startup, and remembering to re-format the drive it was installed on.

    If you have a restore disk that would be the route to go. However if you can't get into the BIOS due to system admin passwords then you can use the jumpers on the motherboard to reset the passwords. Open up the case and find the jumpers with the word password and move them to reset what is locking the bios.

    Bring it to a computer expert or save what you have on a disk and do a system recovery.

    You will find your old file in c:// Drive in the owner files.

    WoooHoooo - free hardware!

    Simply stick the XP (or Vista) Cd in the drive - when you get to the installation options let it do a format - clean PC with Clean OS

    If you have a restore disk for your computer then you can go ahead and wipe the computer to manufactures defects.If you don't have one call your computer manufacturer and most of the time you can order one there for about 20.00 us dollars.

    I would borrow / buy a windows install disk and re-format the disk that way.

    reinstall the Windows Operating System, it is the best solution for now...
