There are a variety of "cleaning" processes that need to be applied periodically to a computer to keep it running properly.

Occasionally, you will need to physically clean the computer hardware. To do that, go to your local electronics store and pick up a can of compressed air. Between the people in the store and the instructions on the can, you should be able to figure out how to clean the computer.

You also need to defragment your hard drives every once in a while. On a Windows XP box, you will right click on the drive itself, select "properties", go to the "tools" tab, and click the "Defragement now..." button.

If you need to clean viruses, spyware, etc. from your computer, you will need to get software to deal with this. I recommend AVG free edition. This can be found at www.grisoft.com
