Is there a good way to clean wooden slat shades? What should I use?

I just moved into a new house and they are on all the windows. I don't want to replace them all if I can help it.

Use a dry swiffer duster if they are just dusty, and a little water on the swiffer if they have dirt or spots... Whatever you do, do not get the cords wet!! They will stain and spot and be a mess to try and clean!!

Hon, there are these things you can buy at the hardware store for cleaning them. They are foam and have fingers of foam that you place on the slats and just draw them across, works wonders you may have to make multiple swipes but makes life so much easier. Also use some oxyclean and hot water for the first few swipes and then some pine-sol w/hot water. Good luck and have fun cleaning your new house.

Well, I would use a maid service! Just kidding. Actually, Swiffer Dusters work well on wooden slat shades. A vacuum with an attacment brush works well also.

The slat shades are awsome, I usually shut them down, wipe them with my underwear,on the way to the laundry. The next time, I turn them up, then give them the panty clean. This is such an easy way to be a slave to blind cleaning!

Since they are wood, I wouldn't suggest putting them in the tub..I take a new microfiber washcloth and wet it and wring it out really well and just wipe them down one slat at a time, being careful to not get the strings to wet and dirty looking. After that intial cleaning, i usually just dust with a swiffer and they stay nice as long as you don't have little sticky fingers playing with them.

Go to the grocercy store or hardware store and buy Murphy Oil Soap this is great for cleaning wood and will not harm the wood or the finish and should remove the food mess. Good luck.

Start by dusting them off with either a soft dry cloth or a duster, usually a good dusting is all that is required. If they still look dirty give them a going over with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth.

ok, this will probably sound weird, but what I do is put socks on my hands, then spray pledge, and then use the socks to clean each slat. It works better than trying to use paper towels or washcloths.

If they're wooden couldn't you use a furniture polish on them? Like a pledge or something? Thats what I would try.
