dinner tonight?
ok, I am cooking dinner for my boyfriend tonight... I don't cook for him often. I was thinking:
fried chicken pieces (I am really good at these, everyone always loves them).
Green beans with garlic, onion, and bacon
I have some red potatoes that I thought I could do something with but I don't know what.
Any ideas? Or different ideas for food?
By the way, I live in Central Africa so my options are limited... and I can't really afford fresh western fruits and veggies (plus no time to go to the market!).
thanks!
oh, I also have shrimp (the bigger ones) in the freezer that I could do something with... chicken breasts and bacon are the other meats I have.

Cut the potatoes into wedges and toss with olive oil and garlic or some seasoning you do have (you can use other oils too), spread on a cookie sheet type pan and put into the oven until they are tender.

Depending on the size of the red potatoes you could cook them and put them in with the green beans. I am from the south (Mississippi) and that's a very popular dish 'round these parts. You need small (the smaller the better) red potatoes, peel and boil until they are about half cooked, then take them out of the potato water and put them right in with the green beans (beans shoulb be almost done, but require a bit more cooking) Continue cooking the potatoes and beans together until the potatoes are done. The flavor of the seasonings you used with the beans will soak into the potaoes...yummmy!

Your menu sounds delcious just as it is! Since your green beans are going to be savory, balance the meal with whipped potatoes. Don't peel all the skin off your red potatoes, boil until a fork pierces the skin easily, then add 1/4 cup margarine or butter and 1/2 cup milk. Use an electric mixer to whip the potatoes up and add salt and pepper to taste!
Have a great dinner!

i am a big fan of potatoes!!! i once ate in this restaurant this potato that wasn't really hard 2 cook... and it in a.. not pan the other big container... and you put it on the stove and cook it inside water. once it's done you cut in to an with out taking the skin of take a little of potato out from each side. than you get some mozzarella and you put on top of each side of the potato. then you put it into the oven until the skin gets kind of hard so that you can actually pick up the potato. right before you're done you might want to put 5 or 6 little pieces of bacon to give it more flavor. I'm just a kid so i don't know but i ate it in the restaurant and i think i fell in love... ENJOY!!!

Everything sounds good so far. Boil and mash the potatoes, no need to peel, then use your imagination...garlic, cheese, butter, whatever you both enjoy. As for the shrimp, make an appetizer. Thaw them in cold water. Pat dry and wrap each shrimp with strips of bacon. You can then broil, grill or saute them. Better yet, get your fella to help you. Cooking together can be lots of fun ;) ;)!

Do you have saffron, I like to make mashed potatoes with garlic and saffron...if no saffron then just garlic mashed potatoes---
wash, cut up potatoes and put in pot with cold water and about 6 garlic cloves, whole, and cook...drain and add butter and a little milk and mash...salt and pepper...

Chicken and green beans sound great.
I'd turn the potatoes into potato salad (it goes great with fried chicken).

Boil the red potatoes, then mash them with garlic and onion (or whatever you like for spices) and then fry them in a bit of oil with onions like pancakes - yummy.
