Do you get your 3 points if a question goes to a vote?

Based on the matrix for points, there are no provisions for gaining points by the asker if the question goes to a vote. The only points you will earn once it goes to a vote, is 1 for voting on the question yourself, and maybe one more if you do this right at the time you visit, but that is a thanks for visiting vote.

If a question you ask goes to voting, you don't get 3 points back.

If you don't like the answers, you could extend the question or just go ahead and choose the best answer of the ones you got, even if they didn't quite nail it down for you. And if the answers all stink, you could just choose the least stinky, I suppose. :-)

If you end up having to choose an answer as Best that really didn't help you that much, you can provide a little feedback with the star rating and by commenting when you make the selection ... something along the lines of "The answers didn't really help, but at least this one tried." :-)

I HAVE received the three points for a question I put in voting previously. I didn't think that was right, so I checked my activity details, and there it was! I don't know if it was because I actually voted for one of the answers while it was in voting and it happened to be the answer that won...Maybe... I'm not sure why it happened. Maybe some kind of glitch? I had also previously received the 1 point for voting on the answer as well, so overall I got 4 points back! Cool, huh?

I haven't put many of my questions to vote, so I don't know if it would work if you vote for an answer that DOESN'T come out as best answer overall, but it would be cool to experiment a little and find out... (You just have to check your activity details at the time the question is resolved)

Sadly it's true about some people just voting to get extra points, and not actually reading the answers and voting for best answer. You might notice that a lot of the time, the first answer has the most votes - regardless of what it actually says. That's those points voters' work...

You do NOT get 3 points if you don't choose the Best Answer yourself. If it goes to voting, you can get 1 point if you go and vote, but that is it.

Some folks do just vote the 1st answer, to rack up the points quickly, others only vote for THEMSELVES, but others do vote often, and vote properly, for the BEST answer.

Well some people actually give reasonable answers but your right, a lot of the time they just say one word answers just to get more points. If the question goes to the voters to pick the best answer then you do not get your 3 points, you only get your 3 points if you pick the best answer. You can always just delete a question if your not getting the kind of answers you hoped for. After you delete it you can ask it again in a different wording and hope that people will get reasonable answers. Hope this helps!

I think you do get your 3 points if your question goes to vote. I put one of my questions up to voting, and once the voting was over, I still got 3 points.

It is true if you pick the person who answers question the best you get 3 pts.

If it goes in voting and you pick the best answer then that is 1 pt.

If its your question then Asker does the voting if your answer is chosen as the best 10 pts.

Well, for those who ran out of points could be voting just for points to ask questions.

I vote for the "best answer" that I can find. Not to run up the points. Heck, I can't remember which ones are my answers anyway...LOL!!
